Recalled Similac Baby Formula Not Distributed through Colorado WIC Program

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Tuesday announced that the nationwide voluntary recall by Abbott Nutrition on a number of its Similac powdered infant formula products does not include any products distributed by Colorado’s Women, Infants and Children program, also known as WIC. Patricia Daniluk, WIC director at the Department of Public Health and Environment, said the state’s WIC program does not issue any of the Similac products that have been recalled. “Our program provides the Enfamil product line, which is not manufactured by Abbott,” she said. State health officials issued the statement after learning WIC programs in some states, such as Texas, received some of the recalled Similac products. On Monday, Sept. 20, Abbott notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that during a quality check at its plant in Sturgis, Mich., a common warehouse beetle (both larvae and adults) was discovered in containers of Similac powdered formula. The manufacturer subsequently voluntarily recalled up to 5 million containers of powder formula sold in the United States, Guam and some Caribbean countries. While the formula containing these beetles poses no long-term health problems, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration advised consumers not to use the product because infants who ingest the formula could experience gastrointestinal discomfort due to irritation of the gastrointestinal tract. The recall involves all Similac powder infant formula sold in plastic tubs, and certain Similac powder product lines offered in 8-oz., 12.4-oz. and 12.9-oz. cans. This includes Isomil and Go & Grow powder formula. The lot numbers are located on the bottom of the individual container. Testimonials

My joints don't hurt me anymore!

"This is the best thing I've done in several years. I've lost 38 pounds; but the biggest accomplishment for me is that I went from a size 40" to a size 34" waist! This shows just how easy it is to follow a fitness program, change a lifestyle and, for me, my well being. My blood pressure has dropped, sugar levels are better and my joints don't hurt me anymore."  Bob, Woodland Park, CO
