Tips To Get More Iron In Your Diet

  • Sprinkle pumpkin or squash seeds on top of salads or add to bread or muffin mixes.
  • Top casseroles with crushed flake-type WIC cereal such as corn flakes.
  • Add chopped meats to salads and casseroles.
  • Buy iron-fortified breads, cereals and pastas.
  • Eat a food high in Vitamin C (oranges, grapefruit, dark green leafy vegetables) or drink WIC juice to help your body use iron better.
  • Cook in iron pots and pans.
  • Limit coffee, tea or soft drinks with meals.  Drinking these decreases the amount of iron your body will absorb from foods.
