Goya-Brand Frozen Mamey Pulp Recalled for Potential Salmonella ContaminationDENVER– Goya Foods, Inc., has recalled its frozen mamey pulp product as a precaution due to possible Salmonella contamination. The product was distributed nationwide, including in Colorado, at Safeway, SmartCo, Liborio Markets and various smaller retail outlets. Mamey is a tropical fruit often used in smoothies.Produced in Guatemala, the product has a Goya label and comes in a 14-ounce plastic package with UPC code 041331090803. All production lot codes are being recalled. State health officials advise consumers to check their freezers and discard any remaining product. Salmonella is a foodborne bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
