What Puts You at Risk for High Blood Pressure?
No single factor is responsible for high blood pressure. Most people with high blood pressure have several high risk factors:
Risk factors you can control: alcohol, diet, smoking, excess weight, excercise, stress, oral contraceptives, and repressed anger.
Blood pressure factors you can not control: heredity, gender, age, and race.
***There are no specific symptoms of high blood pressure; it has been called the silent killer. A blood pressure between 120/80 and 140/90 is called prehypertension- an indication of increased cardiovascular risk. To have your blood pressure checked or discuss your risk factors, call your physician or TCPH at 687-6416.
