How should I dispose of unwanted drugs?
Do you have expired or unwanted prescription or non-prescription drugs that you want to dispose of without rinsing them down the drain?
Teller County residents may drop off unused or expired prescription medications at the lobby of the Sheriff's Office Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. Tablets, capsules and other solid dosage forms will be accepted. Intravenous solutions, injectibles and syringes will not be accepted.
El Paso County provides a free service to help you dispose of your old medications and other hazardous household substances (like batteries, paint, household cleaners, etc.) Click on this link www.elpasoco.com and follow the instructions given there.
Another accepted method of disposal for solid medications is to follow these specific guidelines:
1. Remove your unused medication from its original container and place the medication in a water tight container.
2. Add a small amount of warm water, just enough water to make the medication dissolve into a paste.
3. Add a small amount of an undesirable substance such as soap, coffee grounds, kitty litter or even dirt to the mix to foul any taste that may attract pets or other animals.
4. When all of the previous directions are completed, place the container into a bag, tie it, and place it in your normal trash receptacle for collection.
Please DO NOT flush unused medication down the drain; it can end up polluting the soil and ground water.
"Woodland Park School District would like to express its sincere gratitude for your generous sponsorship of the WPSD Bike and Hike. There were approximately 170 participants biking or hiking on Saturday, September 27. Those participants included students, parents, school staff and administrators, community members, and business leaders such as yourself. Please know that your generosity will be well spent on fitness, nutritional programs, and risk prevention programs for students in Woodland Park School District."
